Free Letter Z Tracing Worksheets
Designed by Chris
This version combines the chance to trace the letter Z and a chance for coloring the image of an animal starting with z – a zebra! This is a great pre-K version for familiarizing students with the concept of letter tracing.

This really activity introduces the letter X slowly by having students trace the letters with correct strokes scaffolded in the images. Then, it has students try to write over the dots to spell the word “zebra”. Finally, students can trace the dots to make a picture of a zebra, which provides further pen control practice!

This version introduces sentence writing. By practicing the letter within words, students can learn that letters form words, and words form sentences. In this piece, they work on a sentence with z’s in it: “The zebra was in the zoo.”

This version gives Pre-K students the chance to practice the capital and lowercase versions of the letters in very large font. Through repetition, the students can come to build muscle memory in writing the letters.

A slightly harder version of the previous one, here we introduce horizontal tracing lines and smaller letter structure. The horizontal lines help students to write the letters in a uniform size across the page.

This worksheet helps students to demonstrate progress in the one page. They start with individual letters, then progress to practicing the uppercase and lowercase side-by-side, then practice a simple z word: zoo.

This version is designed for drill and practice of the uppercase and lowercase variants. students alternate between the two on alternating lines.

This version is all about using the letter z in the context of full words. Students write the words zebra, zip, and zig-zag – both with a lowercase and uppercase first letter. Overall, students practice writing words starting with z 10 times in one worksheet.

This version is designed to help students take the step from letter tracing to writing the letters without as much guidance. The horizontal handwriting lines are still there for scaffolding of uniform size across the piece, but they need to practice the form of the letters independently.

This version offers one word, on repeat: zoo/Zoo. Students get eighteen attempts at creating the word, providing the requisite reinforcement to start to refine their ability to write.
