The variations below include upper case and lower case ‘Vv’ versions for a variety of practice as well as common V words for early learners including van, very, and voice.

Stepping up the difficulty just a tad, we’re moving onto practicing the uppercase and lowercase letters just like the previous worksheet, but then trying out some common v-letter words.

This version is all about writing our first sentences! Students can begin to understand that words are made up of letters, which combined create unique sounds.

This version focuses on practicing the capital and lowercase versions. This one was designed with large letters and simple tracing for pre-K students. If your child finds this easy, use our similar version further down that has smaller letters (requiring more refined penmanship) and horizontal handwriting lines.

Moving up a difficulty level, students are now introduced to horizontal handwriting lines, with the idea that they start to write the letters in a uniform size – letters should be the same size as letters proximate to them. Students practice both uppercase and lowercase V here.

This version integrates progression into the one page. Students start with the individual uppercase letter, then try our the lowercase version. On the third and fourth lines, they practice pairing the letters side-by-side, before finally trying to write a CVC word starting with the letter ‘v’.

This version involves drill and practice of the letter, in both its forms. The focus should be on uniformity of both shape and size. With consistent practice and reinforcement, students will lock the letter into their memory.

The next step up from practicing the letter on its own is to put it into words. This version helps students to practice writing words by combining letters, and ensuring they are of uniform height and form. Students can practice the words: van, vase, and voice.

Eventually, students need to lose the scaffold of the dotted letters to trace over, and start to write the letters independently. The intermediary step is to still have the blank horizontal writing lines and a model at the beginning of each row.

This version focuses in on practicing one of the most common sight words starting with our focus letter. Students see a model of the word at the start of each line, then practice tracing it three per line along six lines.
