In this version, learners can do a progression of difficulties, all in one sheet. Students start with the lowercase c (practicing that added flick at the end), uppercase C, then the words cat and cow, with a focus on linking onto the next letter.

In this version, we practice the lowercase c along the horizontal handwriting lines, ensuring we keep shape and form across the whole sheet. Students practice along six lines, with the chance to practice the letter 72 times in total.

Here, students get the chance to practice the capital C, recognizing that it crosses the middle line in the horizontal rows to stand taller than the lowercase version. Keep a focus on height and structure for all 60 attempts that the letter, developing muscle memory and fine motor skills as you go.

Here, students join the uppercase and lowercase versions, with a focus on leading out of the capitalized C, into the lowercase version from the top-left, then scooping back around ready to lead out of the lowercase c into the hypothetical next letter.

We now move onto short words, with a focus on linking that c onto the next letter. Here, we use the word cat in both lowercase and uppercase, with the c flicking onto the a, then the a onto the t.

Moving onto our next focus word, I’ve provided horizontal tracing lines for learners in this version, helping them to maintain form and height throughout.

Our third and final word is car/Car, again leading on from c to a, or C to a, practicing that flow and stroke without lifting the pen.

In this version, students get a chance to practice and show mastery of all three of their focus c-words: cat, cow, and car. Students write 27 words in total, all involving practice in linking c’s.

Now that our learners have had practice writing the individual letter and linking it into words, we can move onto full sentence practice. Encourage students to feel the flow and not break contact with pen and paper, while still maintaining form. Our first sentence is: “The cat and the cow got in the car.”

Another sentence option, here we practice the word: “Colorful chirping crickets were cooling off near the calm, clear creek.” Encourage students to feel the flow and not break contact with pen and paper, while still maintaining form.
