This collection of free 1 digit by 3 digit multiplication worksheets includes a range of fun activities and challenges to keep students engaged in their learning.
One digit by multi-digit multiplication is usually introduced in Grade 4. It is further reinforced in Grade 5, where multi-digit by multi-digit multiplication is introduced.
All the worksheets are designed to be printed onto A4 paper. Make sure you select the “shrink to fit” option when printing to avoid any cut-offs on your print.

Difficulty: π₯
In this version, I’ve included scaffolding squares above the tens and hundreds columns to remind students that they need to carry over from previous columns then add that number to their final sum.

Students complete the sums then color the correct of four answers. If their answer doesn’t match one of the four options, they know they’ve made a mistake, allowing for a self-corrective mechanism (great for independent study or homework). I’ve tried to leave enough space for students to show their work.

The hardest challenge on this list, this one is only for the very advanced students. Use it as an extension challenge for early finishers. They have to fill-in the numbers to reverse engineer the sum, given a few correct numbers in the answer.

A straightforward 25-question worksheet, with the catch that all the single digit sums are odd numbers. A good twist that allows for drill-and-practice of times tables.

A creative challenge made by Zarah, this one requires students to fill-out the outer ring of the multiplication wheels. Have the students show their work in their math workbooks.

A straightforward worksheet for one-by-three digit multiplication challenges. I’ve recently updated it to increase the amount of lines for students to show their work. I filled out one question already as a scaffold.

Most of this worksheet is relatively straightforward, except the odd curveball (questions 2 and 3) that are designed to throw the students through a loop and challenge their mathematical thinking! You might need spare paper or workbooks to add space to show your working with this one.

Our most popular style, this code-breaker activity requires students to complete the sums, match the answer to a letter, and fill-in the letter on the code. Crack the code to answer the riddle!
